Minor Prophets Jazz Sessions

2026 • 12 tracks

Twelve overlooked voices from Scripture, given the space jazz alone can offer — Hosea's heartbreak, Habakkuk's unanswered why, Zephaniah's quiet warning. These are the prophets nobody quotes at church, and this album makes the case that they should have been the loudest voices in the room all along.

Tracks

  • God spoke to Hosea, a prophet in israel’s land go and marry gomer a woman who will not stay true your home will be my sermon your pain will make them see israel has been unfaithful They have done this unto me

Hosea’s marriage was the message God was the faithful husband Israel chased after other gods And called rebellion worship

This is covenant adultery Not just breaking rules Just when God’s people love false gods, they become blind and cruel. Their children’s names gave warnings, Jezreel, judgment in the land.

Lo-Ruhamah mercy held back, Lo-Ammi, not my people now. Israel still looked religious with priests and feasts and prayers But they trusted wealth and nations Assyria waited there Hosea’s marriage was the message God was the faithful husband

And Israel chased after other gods and called rebellion worship. This is covenant adultery, not just breaking rules. When God’s people love false gods, they become blind and cruel. Then Gomer fell so low that Hosea had to buy her back.

The guilty wife was redeemed, not because she earned the act. God was showing Israel, I will judge, but I restore. The ones called not my people will be called mine once more. Hosea’s marriage was the message.

Judgment came, but mercy stayed. Jezreel would be planted. Lord Uhama would find grace Loemi becomes my people

God keeps His covenant word He judges spiritual adultery But calls His people home

  • The locust came, field stripped bare, vines ruined, joy gone. Joel says, wake up, this is warning The day is near, the day is near Blow the trumpet in Zion, call the people back to God

Not torn clothes, torn hearts Return now, judgment is real Mercy is offered Joel calls everyone elders

Priests, children Bride and groomed No one is hidden No one excused

The priests must weep Spare your people Spare your people, spare your people Then Joel looks ahead

God will pour out his spirit Sons and daughters will prophesy The sun turns dark, the moon turns blood Nations are judged, Jerusalem is defended

The day of the Lord is terror For rebellion against God But hope remains for the remnant Who call on his name

God judges nations God restores Israel God reigns from Zion Return to the Lord

Return to the Lord The day is near

  • Amos was not a priest Not a court prophet He was a shepherd from Tycho God sent him north

to prosperous Israel the nation looks strong the worship looked active but God saw violence under the music under the music Amos names the nation’s first, Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, Edom, Ammon, Moab, then Judah, then Israel. The trap closes slowly, the guilty ones are the listeners.

They sold the poor for silver They crushed the needy at the gate They loved their houses They loved their feasts

They sang their songs while justice died Justice died

Let justice roll like waters Let righteousness flow like a stream God rejects worship when the weak are crushed Songs become noise when hearts refuse truth

They wanted the day of the Lord Amos said, you do not understand For rebels, that day is not light It is darkness

A man escapes a lion Then meets a bear He reaches home Leans on the wall

And a serpent strikes God showed a plumb line The wall was measured It was not straight

God showed a basket of summer fruit The end was near Israel’s religion Could not cancel

Israel’s rebellion The end was near But Amos does not end With ruin alone after judgment

God will raise David’s fallen tent The nations will be gathered, the land will bloom again God tears down pride, but keeps his promise

Let justice roll like waters Let righteousness flow like a stream God rejects worship when the weak are crushed Songs become noise when hearts refuse truth

Amos teaches clearly Religion without justice is evidence against us God sees the poor, God measures nations God will judge corruption and restore what he promised.

  • This book is short, the charge is clear God speaks to Adam, the sons of Esau They were not strangers, they were Jacob’s kin When Jacob fell, Idom watched cold

Brother against brother Pride deceived you, Idom

Your rocks could not save you You watched Jacob fall And acted like a stranger

God saw the violence God heard the boasting The day you rejoiced Became your day of judgment

Edom did not just watch, they blocked the weak. They trapped the fugitives, they handed over survivors. They treated disaster like victory. But God said, as you have done, it comes back to you, as you have done.

Pride says, I cannot fall. Old hatred can become policy Family sin can become national sin But Zion will stand, the kingdom is the Lord’s

God will keep his promise to Jacob Pride deceived you with him

Your rocks could not save you You watched Jacob fall And acted like a stranger

God judges nations God remembers covenant The kingdom is not Adam’s The kingdom is the Lord’s

Do not rejoice over judgment Do not betray your brother Do not build your future Against the people God chose

  • Jonah

  • Micah speaks like court is open God calls the mountains to hear Samaria stands accused Jerusalem accused too

The charge is covenant sin Not confusion Not misunderstanding Covenant sin

They kept religious language But corruption ruled within The court is open What does the Lord require?

    Not performance Not displayed

Do justice Love mercy Walk humbly With your God

The rulers hated justice They devoured the weak The prophets sold comfort To whoever paid to speak

Micah said the problem Was not sacred sound They were building Zion With blood in the ground

Blood in the ground Then the book turns, judgment is real But not the final word From Bethlehem, small among Judah

Comes the ruler from ancient days Not just a better king, the Messiah The shepherd who stands in the strength of the Lord Micah sees a future mountain

Zion is lifted high Nations come for teaching War is put aside Swords become plowshares

Spears become pruning hooks The judge of all nations Sets the world right What does the Lord require?

    Not performance Not display

Do justice Love mercy Walk humbly With your God

Micah ends with pardon Who is a God like you? You pass over sin You keep covenant love

You cast sins down into the depths of the sea Courtroom Bethlehem Kingdom

Mercy God judges corruption But He remembers His promise

  • Now who means comfort, comfort for Judah They never heard mercy in Jonah’s day God spared that city, but blood returned, pride returned Violence returned The Lord is slow to anger

The Lord is good to those who trust him But he sees blood, he sees cruelty He remembers the violent Nineveh was called the city of blood

Assyria ruled by fear and pain Judah had felt that heavy yoke God saw the terror, God heard the cries, Nahum saw the flood. The gates would open, the city would fall, not by chance, not by accident.

The cruel empire would answer to God This is the lesson God’s patience is not weakness God’s mercy is not permission

When violence returns, when pride returns The judge will answer Judah, lift your eyes The oppressor will not last

The Lord breaks the heavy yoke Good news comes over the mountains Peace is not pretend Peace is God

Removing evil Nahum teaches clearly Mercy was offered Violence returned

God comforted Judah by judging the cruel The Lord is good, the Lord is just He is patient, He is not mocked Good news comes over the mountains

The Lord is good, the Lord remembers

  • How long, O Lord? Habakkuk asks plainly Violence fills the streets Justice bends

The wicked surround the righteous The law feels paralyzed He is not doubting God’s existence He is questioning God’s timing

How long, O Lord? God answers I am raising the Chaldeans That answer is harder

Babylon is worse How can a holy God use a wicked nation To judge people less wicked than themselves Habakkuk stands watch

He waits for correction God says write the vision Make it plain The proud soul is not right

But the just shall live by faith Live by faith Then come the woes Woe to greed, woe to violence, woe to corrupt gain

Woe to drunken power, woe to idols that cannot speak Babylon may be God’s instrument, but Babylon is not innocent Then the prophet remembers God came before

God shook the nations God saved his people The fig tree may not blossom The vines may fail

The fields may produce nothing The stalls may stand empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord. Habakkuk teaches clearly, faith is not pretending, there are no questions. Faith is standing watch, hearing God’s answer

And trusting his justice before the outcome is visible The just shall live by faith The just shall live by faith

  • Zephaniah preached while Judah looked strong Jeremiah was near, warning the same people The streets had order The throne had power

But God saw hearts Settled in sin The day of the Lord Was not a slogan

It was the day God would search Jerusalem them, not just the idols, not just the kings, but those who said, the Lord will do nothing. This is the warning

Prosperity can hide danger Religion can hide sleep A nation can look alive While judgment stands at the door

Then God speaks wider Judah is judged But not Judah only Philistia, Moab, Ammon, Cush, Assyria

The nation’s answer to the Lord But Zephaniah does not end in ruin God keeps a humble remnant He removes shame

He gathers the scattered He restores Israel He turns judgment into song The king of Israel is in her midst

The Lord has taken judgment away He rejoices over her with gladness He quiets her by His love He sings over her

Sephaniah teaches clearly God judges complacent religion God rules over every nation God preserves the humble

God restores his people The day is real The kingdom is coming The Lord will sing over Zion

    You

  • Haggai speaks to returned exiles They came back home but stopped the work The temple lay open The Lord’s house waited

But their own houses Looked just fine They said The time has not come

Interesting timing God’s house could wait But comfort could not Ceilings were finished

Priorities were not God told them Consider your ways You sow much

But harvest little You earn wages Then lose them fast Like money placed in a bag with holes

This is not ancient only We do the same, we build careers We build homes, we build platforms We build plans, then give God what time remains

Haggai is not about hating comfort, it is about ordering love. God is not honored by leftovers. Delayed obedience can sound reasonable Especially when we call it

Not the right season Then the people listens, irrevable listen Joshua listened The remnant feared the Lord

And God said, I am with you That was the turning point Not more excuses Not better timing

Obedience The later glory would be greater The nations would shake The desired one would come

Haggai points beyond stones and walls God was preparing Messiah’s house Haggai teaches clearly Check your priorities

Consider your ways Do not decorate your own ceiling While God’s work stays unfinished The Lord is patient

But he is not fooled Put first What belongs first Not leftovers

Not someday Not after comfort, consider your way

  • The city is back but broken The temple is rising but small The people returned, but glory felt gone Then God says, return to me

And I will return to you Return to me Night visions begin Horses among myrtles

Horns that scatter Judah A measuring line over Jerusalem God is not finished with Zion He remembers the city

He remembers the covenant Joshua stands accused The high priest wears filthy clothes Satan brings the charge

The Lord rebukes him Dirty garments removed Clean robes given Grace answers accusation

The priest is restored Clean robes given Then comes the branch The servant

The king The stone God says I will remove sin And one day

Not by politics, not by force By the coming work of the Lord The lampstand burns ere a Bible hears Not by might, not by power

But by my spirit, says the Lord Small beginnings are not failure The mountain becomes level The temple will stand

The vision’s also on the flying scroll The woman in the basket Wickedness carried away God comforts Zion

But he also cleanses Restoration is not permission To stay corrupt, he cleanses Then the future opens

A king comes lowly Riding on a donkey A shepherd is rejected Thirty pieces of silver

They look on him whom they pierced A fountain opens for sin and uncleanness Jerusalem will suffer, but the Lord will reign The nations will gather, but the king will stay

His feet touch the mountain, living waters flow The Lord will be king over all the earth God rebuilds, God cleanses, God restores priests, God promises the branch, the king is humble, the king is peace, the king is coming, not by might, not by power, by my spirit, says the Lord.

  • The temple is rebuilt The altar burns again The people say the words But the heart is thin

God says I have loved you They answer how The first wound in Malachi As love forgotten now, how have you loved us?

The priests bring leftovers, the blind, the lame, the torn. They would not give a governor what they offer to the Lord. God says, where is my honor? Where is my fear? Religion stayed in motion, but reverence disappeared.

Malachi asked the question Who can endure his day? The messenger is coming The Lord will purify

He will refine the sons of Levi He will expose the heart Before the silence falls God calls them to return

They broke faith in marriage They covered wrong with prayer They wearied God with questions Where is justice? Does He care?

They robbed Him in their giving They called service vain They saw the proud prosper And wondered why obey?

Why obey? Why obey? But not all were careless. Some still feared the Lord.

God heard their conversation and wrote their names before Him. Then comes the closing warning. Remember Moses’ law. Elijah comes before the day, before the great and dreadful day.

Malachi asked the question Who can endure his day? The messenger is coming The Lord will purify

The son of righteousness will rise With healing in his wings Judgment is coming But mercy calls them home

The Old Testament closes With a warning A promise and 400 years of silence
