Zephaniah preached while Judah looked strong Jeremiah was near, warning the same people The streets had order The throne had power
But God saw hearts Settled in sin The day of the Lord Was not a slogan
It was the day God would search Jerusalem them, not just the idols, not just the kings, but those who said, the Lord will do nothing. This is the warning
Prosperity can hide danger Religion can hide sleep A nation can look alive While judgment stands at the door
Then God speaks wider Judah is judged But not Judah only Philistia, Moab, Ammon, Cush, Assyria
The nation’s answer to the Lord But Zephaniah does not end in ruin God keeps a humble remnant He removes shame
He gathers the scattered He restores Israel He turns judgment into song The king of Israel is in her midst
The Lord has taken judgment away He rejoices over her with gladness He quiets her by His love He sings over her
Sephaniah teaches clearly God judges complacent religion God rules over every nation God preserves the humble
God restores his people The day is real The kingdom is coming The Lord will sing over Zion
