The Way

Written in Light

Track 4

I kept a ledger no one saw, a running tab inside my chest Every line another loss, every night a restless dead Tried to buy my way to peace with half-truths, vows and second tries But the balance followed me, same shadows in a new disguise

I wore the smile I couldn’t keep, scrolled the dark to drown the noise Told myself that I was fine, the mirror never bought the poise Even kindness felt like math, given up to tip the scale But the interest of my heart was steep, I knew the center failed

And if I’m honest, I was waiting for the knock upon the door The audit of my soul, the sun I couldn’t cover anymore Daylight broke across my name, written in light, not in my life

Paid in full across the page The dead erased before my eyes Not because I fixed myself Not because I got it right Love took the cost I couldn’t pay

And wrote my story bright I knew the terms if I stand alone The verdict has to fall Every charge would read my life

Every word would tell it all But in the place I should have stood I heard a different sound I gather on an empty dock and mercy all around

Justice didn’t disappear, it landed where the nails had been My darkness met a brighter truth, the sentence fell on him The daylight broke across my name, written in light, not in my lies Paid in full across the page, the dead erased before my eyes

Not because I fixed myself, not because I got it right Love took the cost I couldn’t pay And wrote my story bright Judges spoken, verdict just death

And judgment all made plain But grace abounded, unexpected Where I was guilty, you took my blame Where I was empty, you gave your name

Where I was dying, you broke the knife And signed the record with your light Daylight broke across my name Written in light, not in my light

Paid in full across the page The dead erased before my eyes Not because I fixed myself Not because I got it right Love took the cost I couldn’t pay

Wrote my story bright Written in life Over my name I’m finally free
