The Invitation

Track 8

I pulled up a chair in the quiet of my mind All my excuses couldn’t cover what I’d find I wore a thousand faces, but the mirror knew my name And still the door was open, still the welcome stayed the same

Cause every rule I couldn’t keep Every time I hit the wall I thought the table had no place for me at all But there’s an invitation

Come and eat, come and rest Where the hungry find their portion

Where the guilty find their blessing No one earns a place here But the door is open wide The Son of God has set it

And His mercy’s on the side I tried to buy forgiveness With a thousand little deeds But the check was always empty

Never covering my need Then I heard a quiet whisper It is finished, it is done And the seat of the cross was waiting

Already paid by someone Not a potluck I can offer Not a banquet I prepare It’s the table of a Savior

And He says I can be there There’s an invitation

Come and eat, come and rest Where the hungry find their portion

Where the weary learn they’re blessed

No one earns a place here But the door is open wide

The Son of God is setting And His mercy is on the side Bread that never perishes Wine that breaks the night

Grace that keeps on pouring Come and take the line There’s an invitation Come and eat, come and rest

Where the broken find their healing Where the weary find their blessed

No one earns a place here But the door is open wide

The Son of God has said it And His mercy is on the side Uh-uh-uh-uh. Uh-uh-uh.
