I was taken young, far from home New streets, new language, idols of stone They changed my name, my clothes, my friend But morning and night I prayed like I did then

I passed on the royal plate to keep my heart clear God gave wisdom that kings would hear I stayed the same And then let that change my name

King, green, big, gold, heavy Clay feet, I said Kingdoms will rise up And then leave

Another night I hand-wrote on the wall I read the words and the party stalled That very night the empire turned And I kept serving lesson learned

I stayed the same In a land that changed my name Oh, new rulers watched the way I worked They set a trap where I wouldn’t bend

They signed a Lord, a silenced prayer I opened my window like I always did They threw me down where the lions fled A stone was seated above my head

But God said, hey girl The lions closed their mouths At first light the king called out I answered from the ground

I didn’t bow to fear I didn’t trade my mouth In a foreign land, my God held me somehow I wasn’t fearless, I was held

I wasn’t faultless, He was faithful still God sent an angel The lions closed their mouths And every king I serve
